Friday Five

Yippee!  It's Fri-day...

1)  The racing season here in Portland kicks off with the Shamrock Run in mid-march.

This is a hugely popular race with 3 distance options - 5k, 8k and 15k.  The 15k is one of my favorite runs - it's really hard (hilly) but I love the route up and over Terwilliger.  In past years I've used it as a guage for my fitness.  Unfortunately, I won't be able to run it this year (stupid stupid foot).

I've been feeling sorry for myself and wasn't going to sign up for any of the races because I couldn't run the distance I wanted to, but then my husband said he wanted to do the 8k....and then my son said he wanted to run the 5k....so I decided to sign us all up.  Brian is doing the 8k, my son and I are doing the 5k and my daughter is doing the "Leprauchan Lap" (.6mi).   My son has never run a 5k, so this should be interesting.  I envision lots of "water breaks".

2)  My foot has been feeling good - I've cut back to 2 mile runs in distance, and it's responding well to that.  I DID run 3 miles at the run for Sherry - but I just couldn't bring myself to cut that run short.  It held up really well, so I'm feeling good about things.  Still need to go get new running shoes though...hopefully this weekend!

3)  WANTED:  Chicken Recipes!  I made a crock pot chicken yesterday and have leftover chicken I need to use up.  Any good chicken recipes y'all recommend?  I'm kind of running low in the originality department and would like to try some new things (preferably healthy, clean recipes!).

4)  I've had a good workout week so far, so I'm feeling good in that department (better than last week at least!).  I was looking for something tough to do on Wednesday, when I read a review from Heather at Will Run for Coffee for this workout:
Oh my god.  So hard.  SO SO SO SO hard.  It's a full 66 minutes and my arms were noodles by the end of it.  I can usually do push ups and everything in full plank, but I had to go down to my knees for some of this workout - it was killing me!  I've had this DVD for about 6 months, but I've only done it a few times.  I think I definitely need to get this into the rotation, because if it's this hard, it's probably exactly what I need to be doing.

5)  Biggest Loser - well, they tried to make Conda seem human and approachable by explaining some stuff from her past, but I wasn't feeling the redemption angle.  She's just a mean girl, and I still can't stand her.  I was really happy Daphne beat her.  It's also EXTREMELY clear that there is a red team voting alliance of Kim, Conda, Buddy and Mark - because voting Roy out when he lost 9 pounds?  Completely ridiculous and makes zero sense.  Conda lost the challenge for her team despite being given a 2 pound advantage, yet she's safe?  Whatever.

Looks like lots of drama coming up next week though - should be interesting!

That's it!  Hope you all have a great weekend!  Head over to Fitness, Health and Happiness for Friday Fitness!

The family run sounds fun!! Chicken recipes... do you like grain salads, like tabouli? You could make bulghur or quinoa and add chicken, veggies (cukes, tomatoes, pepper, whatever) and dress it with a simple oil & lemon, salt & pepper. Easy and yummy! (and clean!)

Way to enter the 5k! You would be disappointed if you didn't do it. Oh man, I fell asleep in front of the fire during biggest loser, so I missed much of what you are talking about. No more Roy? Bummer. Luckily I dvr'd it so I will watch it today.

Leftover Chicken - enchilidas, chicken salad, or chicken noodle soup are all pretty easy to make.

I make a really yummy tortilla soup that tastes good with chicken added... http://mcmmamaruns.com/2011/02/21/last-man-standing/

I'll be running the Deschutes Dash in Oregon and the Harvest Days 8k in Washington. Will you be doing either of those?

Hey girl! Long time not blog read...sorry about that. I've been really bad about commenting and reading but nice to be here today. Sorry you can't do Shamrock. I was going to do that one but I needed a saturday race so I'll be doing one the day before. The 5k is a hard one...a big hill! Good luck to him. HOw are you feeling after that workout?? Let me know in a few days. ;) Hope your foot keeps feeling better and better.

Yay for Leprechauns! Portland area sure has a lot of great runs! I was out there this past fall - and did not want to leave. I ran on some beautiful trails in a gorgeous park! Hope the foot heals quickly for you!

Happy to hear your foot is feeling better! I've been seeing a lot of Bob Harper blog posts lately. Maybe I'll give it a try.

I was so happy when my son started running with me. Yes, at first it was a slow trot and he would take advantage of every water station but over the past year he really has come into his own!

Biggest Loser is driving me nuts too. I don't watch it for the drama...:(

I've never cooked a whole chicken, I consider myself brave for buying a cooked whole chicken (Costco). :) That race sounds way fun, love including the family. My 9 yr. old wants to run the Pat Tillman Run 4.2 with me but he never even wants to go walking/jogging so I don't know. I guess I need to encourage him a little more and be willing to go with him at night even if I've already gotten my big workout in. I just get so pooped by the end of the day. As for B.L., I haven't had a chance to watch it this season...I plan to catch up on hulu or something. Hope life slows down soon. Good luck with your foot, slow and steady.

How fun that you all are signing up for the race as a family! I cant wait for that. I help with our local st pattys day run and it truly is so much fun!!

I watched BL once and couldnt stand Conda so I stopped watching. All I thought was this girl is hiding all of her insecurities around being mean to others. Not the best way to deal with things. Sadly I dont think she is going to lose that anytime soon.

that workout video sounds amazing and scary!
