Friday Five!

yay for Friday!

1) Saw this on FB yesterday - this will make me re-think that next drive thru meal!

source
"Food" that doesn't decompose - scary!  I guess a doctor put these out to illustrate the lack of real food in fast food joints.  Seriously - what's in there?  Plastic?  It hasn't changed at all in almost 2 years...!!

2)  On that note - I was perusing the website 100 Days of Real Food - which is a website about a family who took a 100 day "real food" (aka no processed) pledge and has now made it a lifestle.  It's pretty interesting, so I tried out one of the recipes...BIG thumbs up from me and the hubs!  We made the Flank Steak Fajitas - oh my god YUMMM- and so easy, just throw everything in the slow cooker and there ya go.  They looked like this picture from the website, minus the cilantro sprigs because I didn't have 'em...
Yumm-ay
Definitely looks more appetizing than that first picture, huh?

3)  Running - I've been doing my little runs (3 - 3.5 miles/2x week) and things are good for the most part - but I felt a little twinge in my foot the other day, so I'm icing again along with all the stretching I was doing anyway.  I think it's nothing, but I'm kind of paranoid now so I'm taking every little thing seriously.  I'm still feeling optimistic about it.

4) Here's a question for ya - Relay Vs. Marathon -  which is harder?  I have this debate with my friend every so often - she says relay and I say marathon.  I usually run one relay a year and can run really well (for me) and not even be that sore afterwards- but a marathon is way more taxing physically for me.   I think for a lot of people this might come down to the ability to function well on little sleep and in cramped quarters at that - which I know for some people can make a relay really miserable.  It doesn't seem to bother me too much (at least not until after the race!), but a marathon is such a concentrated effort for an extended period of time - it's just grueling.  For those of you who have done both a marathon and a relay - what do you think is harder?  I'm curious to hear what you all think...

5)  Biggest Loser.  Wow, there was a lot of eye rolling in this episode, wasn't there?  Bob rolling his eyes at Dolvett.  Everyone rolling their eyes at Chris when she wanted to go home.  And then there's Conda whose eyes are perpetually spinning in an eye roll.   I was SO happy that she got kicked out of the gym.  I don't think for one minute her apology to Dolvett was sincere  - she definitely just ate crow to get back in the gym.

Hope you all have a great weekend - head over to Fitness, Health and Happiness for Fitness Friday!

I haven't eaten fast food since I saw Super Size me years ago. Once you get used to it you completely lose your taste for french fries! The fastest food I have is Subway!

Just another reason to avoid fast food. That's scary!

i discovered 100 days of food about a year ago- amazing feat to do!

I've yet to do a marathon but have run 3 relays--- One of my relay teams was super fast and very supportive for cheering, we constantly got out of the van and our time was 26 hours. I was on another relay team that wasn't comprised of runners, didn't really cheer and move around + our time was 33 hours--- I was sore for days. I think the cramped quarters for too long can make it harder than a marathon- depends on your training

Glad you have been able to run. I hope the twinge was nothing:) Those fajitas look so good. I'm always looking for crock pot recipes so I will try this. I have always wanted to try a relay race. It sounds so fun!

ahhhh. that picture of the food scares me!

i have thought about the relay vs. marathon question often and i honestly think a relay is harder but i think for me mentally i just like to get all my running finished in one time period...it exhausts me to have to keep taking breaks ;) hope that foot it okay!

I will admit that once we cut out our eating out often thing, I have lost my sense of taste for a lot of stuff. Nothing ever tastes as good as I remember it tasting before. On one hand, it's so disappointing. When we do go out to eat, I've been trying new things (for me) to get back a 'wow' feeling since we're paying for it. Making wonderful things at home has become my preferred. Which brings me to my next point, yummy looking fajitas! I will definitely make them!
As far as BL, I think Bob needs to grow up. I've really liked him until recently. Why does he have such a complex about Dolvett? How old are we here folks? Anyway....

Your fajitas look amazing! I should make those this weekend. Yummm.

I've only done on relay (Cascade Lakes in central Oregon) but tons of marathons and I would say marathon is harder, no question. BUT when I did the relay, I wasn't with a competitive team or pushing super hard. So while I got tired, I was never really at my limit like in a marathon.

Now which one is more fun... that would be a tough choice!

Eww!
I knew there was a reason I didn't eat at McD's!

I saw that picture on facebook this week too, disgusting!! I have never done a relay, but I think I would side with you, the recovery from a marathon is pretty intense!

I gave up the fast food after super size me too! What a great reminder! I missed BL this week, going to have to go back at watch... not a fan of Condo tho

That McDonald's food picture is disgusting! We don't eat fast food that often, good thing.

I haven't done a relay or a marathon yet, but I will do both this year! I'll get back to you!

your meal looks awesome! and gotta either love or hate the contestants on BL, right? This season I think there are more to dislike.

I'm curious to know what others think about the relay vs. marathon. Fast food is just one more reason to eat clean :)

Definitely checking out the real food blog. Thanks for the link.
